“Glory to God in the highest, And on earth peace, goodwill toward men!”
— Luke 2:14
What does peace, good will toward men mean? It can’t mean peace between men or among men because Jesus said He came to bring division among people – some would accept Him and others not. And we see strife, jealousy, anger and discontentment among people.
So what are the angels saying? They are saying God is not mad at mankind anymore, the wall of separation between God and man has been torn down – as the veil in the temple was torn from top to bottom at Jesus death.
Jesus has taken our place and given His life for you and me to be right with the Father. You are free from guilt, condemnation and shame. Nothing is held against you. The angel was saying the great I AM loves us so much that He gave Himself to make you and me legally able to come into His presence and receive all the blessings He created us to enjoy.
There is nothing for us to do – except to receive as a gift – Himself – God sent God to rescue us. What a glorious Creator and Father!
