Then the LORD turned to him and said, “Go in this might of yours, and you shall save Israel from the hand of the Midianites. Have I not sent you?”
— Judges 6:14 (NKJ)
The Lord says for Gideon to “go in this might of yours.” What? Where is this great might? Gideon says to the Lord, “I have no might. I am a nobody. I can not save Israel because, Lord, you know this but just to be sure you remember correctly, I am from the weakest clan in Manasseh. We are at the bottom of the totem pole and to validate that, I am nothing! I am the least in all of my father’s house”.
Where did Gideon get his identity? From words he heard all his life. Clans, families, and family members were all ranked and Gideon had been told he was the least by everyone and those thoughts went to his heart. “This is who I am…a nobody, someone of no significance. I’ve always been told this and now it’s what I believe. I am nothing to get excited about. I am not one to say I can do great and mighty things because I can’t! This is who I am. Lord, you of everyone should know this. I can’t do and be because I am not”.
Let’s go back to the statement of “Go in this might of yours…”. What might? Look again at what the Lord first says to Gideon in v12, “The Lord is with you, you mighty man of valor!”
The might of Gideon is stated right there in this statement, “the Lord is with you.” Here is your might Gideon. It is not where you come from. It is not your clan. It is not your family. It is not your ranking in the family. It is NOT YOU, Gideon. Your might is in this, “the Lord is with you”. You are a mighty man of valor because the Lord is with you!
This is you and me. The Lord is with us. We are mighty. We are men and women of valor because the Lord is with us. This gives us reason to shout, to dance and sing for joy! And today, living in the New Covenant means Christ is IN us! He is with us, He is IN us. This is our might; this is our ability! Christ in me, the Hope of Glory. Colossians 1:27
Having come into my humanness, Jesus was raised to life as the Son of Man, a human. He was raised by the power of God in His humanness, as me. I died with Him because He was my Representative. Then I was raised to life with Christ as a new person. He was raised. I am raised. He is seated in heavenly places. I am seated in heavenly places.
Christ is in you! Go in this might of yours! This is you and this is me. The Lord is with us; He is in us. Ephesians 6:10 says to be strong in the Lord and in the power of His might. The Lord is in you. Your history doesn’t matter, or your clan, or your family, or your ranking or what anybody says. Not even the thoughts in your own head. You are mighty in Him!
“You are defined by God’s word. Nothing can change that!”
