For He made Him who knew no sin to be sin for us, that we might become the righteousness of God in Him.
— 2 Corinthians 5:21 (NKJ)
Righteousness has been given to me as a gift. I did not earn it by my good deeds. It is a gift, therefore, I AM the righteousness of God in Christ Jesus.
Confession is not only admitting my wrong, but it also means to say the same thing as, so I just made a true confession. However, I grew up with the idea that confession was only confessing sin. It was telling God how wrong I was, what a failure I was, that I knew better, so how on earth could I have done this again? Please, please forgive me.
What am I doing? I am wallowing and groveling in the muck of sin. Yes, I need to recognize my wrong and repent by owning it, but after that I must change my view and opinion to His, instead of beating myself up. Telling God how bad I’ve been and how I missed the mark is not saying what God says and it does not help me.
God does not remind me of my faults or condemn me. So when I do this, I am not in harmony with God and His view.
He says that I am the righteousness of God in Him, that my sins are washed in the blood of Jesus, that I always have a clean slate, that I am accepted, that I have been made pure, that there is no accusation held against me. He says that there is no condemnation in Christ Jesus. He says that I am a new creation.
This type of confession is glorying in who I am in Christ, not groveling in the mud of my mistakes and failures. The Bible says I am to sanctify myself by setting myself unto God which automatically sets me apart from the world. God has already sanctified me and set me apart for Himself. My response is to step into what He has done for me through Jesus. It’s my choice. God will not do it for me.
Saying what God has declared over us is being in harmony with Him. He says that we are pure, holy, forgiven, clean, righteous and accepted, even if we just did the same thing for the hundredth time.
Admit and own that you have made a mistake, but do not wallow and grovel. Instead, lift up your head and take hold of His finished work. You are who God says you are! You are no longer a slave to sin. You are free. You are a child of Abba – forgiven!
Will you grovel or glory?
