So Boaz and Ruth married, and they became one as husband and wife. Yahweh opened Ruth’s womb, and she bore a son. Then the women of Bethlehem blessed Naomi: “Praise Yahweh, who never abandoned you nor withheld from you a kinsman-redeemer! . . .
— Ruth 4:13-14 (TPT)
This word Goel – Redeemer, one who will do everything and anything, even risk his life on behalf of the one who has lost everything became one of God’s favorite names. God says over and over, “I am your Redeemer, I am your Redeemer”. God’s gift to humankind was Himself. He is our inheritance. We inherit the love of God, the goodness of God, the kindness of God, the power and strength of God.
In the garden of Eden, satan comes in and steals their inheritance with deceit and lies, clouding their minds with darkness. Jesus calls him a liar and a murderer from the beginning. We lost everything in that deceitful believing. We turned away from God and entered into a hideous relationship with darkness and death. We were his prey and he took our inheritance and adopted the title of the god of this world – the prince of the power of the air.
How do we get out of this darkness? We need a Goel – a near kinsman – a Redeemer. One who will come where we are and avenge our death. One who will go for the murderer, restore our inheritance and pay our debts.
God so loved us that God Himself, the Creator, became our near kinsman. He became our Goel – Redeemer, in Jesus. Many Christians are very aware that Jesus is God and came from God, but they stop there.
The wonder of the Good News is that He is God who joined the human family authentically. He is 100% real human. “Yes, I am your kinsman, your Goel. All that you have lost and all that the deceiver has taken, by my honor, by my name, I restore to you.”
God became our Goel in Jesus. He sat where we sit and He got inside the horror of our darkness and death. He faced satan as one of us. He overcome satan as us, not only for us, but as us. He went after our murderer and striped him of all authority. Satan is on death row now, howling around, but he is done and finished through Jesus.
Jesus, by the shedding of His own blood, became your Kinsman Redeemer! He is your Provider, Protector, Deliverer, Healer, etc! He became human for you. What great LOVE! You are the object of that love!
“He stepped into my story and became my Kinsman Redeemer. Now His story is my story.”
