24 So the jailer placed them in the innermost cell of the prison and had their feet bound and chained. 25 Paul and Silas, undaunted, prayed in the middle of the night and sang songs of praise to God, while all the other prisoners listened to their worship.
— Acts 16:24-25 (TPT)
Paul and Silas were undaunted! They were not moved by their circumstances.
They were beaten with rods, placed into stocks and twisted into a painful and contorted position. Being in the inner prison cell where there was only pitch darkness, bleeding, and suffering was not the ministry life one would imagine. Talk about the challenge of looking beyond your circumstances!
Paul and Silas praised God. Wow! They praised God and didn’t wallow in self pity, in feelings of being forsaken, neglected, forgotten or overlooked. They didn’t ask, “what happened to our calling, our anointing, our ministry?” They looked beyond circumstances and saw their Savior.
How do we know this? They sang, and they sang so loud that all the other prisoners could hear them! They invited Him into their circumstances. This is trust, this is worship. This was looking beyond what was happening and seeing their loving Savior.
When you depend on Him, you have just opened the door and invited Him into the situation.
The sign of dependence on Him is peace. Look beyond the storm in your life and see your Savior. Because you trust Him, you let Him in and where He is there is peace.
Look beyond circumstances; see your Savior.
