There will be no more sunsets or new moons, for Yahweh will be your everlasting light and your days of sadness will be over.
— Isaiah 60:20 (TPT)
The people of the Old Covenant longed for something better. They were always forward looking for what was to come.
This verse would seem as if it is still future when we are heaven side, not earth side. However, something happened….
”But then the day dawned; the most complete culmination of time. (Everything predicted was concluded in Christ.)” Galatians 4:4 (Mirror Bible) Everything predicted was fulfilled including this verse Isaiah 60:20. It is not for the future, it is for the now.
A foot note in The Passion Bible of the word “sadness” in this verse says, “The dark night of our sin and pain and grief are ended by the work of Jesus on the cross and the work of the Holy Spirit within us”.
This is the day in which we live. He has come and removed our sins, He has come and removed the darkness of night. He came giving Himself, coming as our everlasting light.
Isaiah 60:20 is declaring to us we now live in His everlasting light. He is our hope, He is our joy, He is our peace, He is our victory. He is the light in the darkest of nights.
Let’s look at the adulteress woman who was condemned by the religious group of the day in John 8. What does Jesus say to her? In verse 11, He says that He does not condemn her, for her to go and sin no more. In His very next statement He says that He is the light. He brought her into the light of Himself and freed her from shame and condemnation.
Jesus is the light of the world. In reading the Gospels, you see the light shattering the darkness, breaking every bondage. Read the Gospels looking for that light coming into your darkness.
In John 9:5 Jesus again declares He is the light of the world. This declaration comes after the blind man was healed. What happened here? It is similar to the adulteress woman; he was set free just as she was set free. They were both in bondage and Jesus sets them free declaring that He is the Light piercing through and destroying the darkness.
This is the Everlasting Light speaking to us. In Romans 8:1 it says,”Therefore, there is now no condemnation for those who are in Christ Jesus”. This is the light piercing our shame, guilt and condemnation, sickness and pain. He is saying I am the light, I do not condemn you. I am the light, your healer. I am cutting through the condemnation and dispelling the darkness.
Rejoice with me, for we live in the presence of Him who is everlasting light and in Him there is no darkness (1John 1:5). Come into the light and live in the freedom the light brings.
We have this idea that light exposes the darkness but the truth is that light expels the darkness. We have been deceived living in fear of the light, thinking that the light exposes all our sins, wrongs and shame but no, coming into the light causes the darkness to be vanquished. In the darkness there is bondage, guilt, shame and condemnation. In the Light there is only freedom from the darkness.
The Light has come, He has expelled our darkness, shattered the bondage. Come, and live in the light. He lived in your darkness that you might live in the Light!
“He entered my darkness as Everlasting Light.”
