Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all the days of my life; And I will dwell in the house of the LORD forever.
— Psalm 23:6 (NKJ)
Because of ABBA’s Love for you and me, He wants us to live in His blessings. Goodness in the Hebrew means bountiful, beautiful, best and Mercy means lovingkindness, favor, etc. How wonderful!
However when I read that these things shall “follow” me, I think of something trying to “get” me or “overtake” me meaning they don’t have me yet. But God is not trying to catch me in order to give me these things because He has already given me these things through Jesus. I asked the Holy Spirit what He meant by “follow” and this is the picture that came to mind.
My little dog Buddy who passed away a month ago followed me everywhere. When I would sit in my office, Buddy was always in the room with me. When I got up to go to the kitchen, Buddy followed me. When I walked to the door, Buddy followed me. His presence was with me. He was not trying to catch me. He was blessing me with himself because He loved me and wanted to be with me.
God is saying I am with you. I love you and I want you to live life in My peace and My abundance. My goodness is always with you and My lovingkindness will never leave you. I am with you wherever you go. It is My Love that enables you to face life confidently. Remember I delight to do more than you ask or think according to Ephesians 3.
God is better than we ever imagined and His desire is always to do more than we can think or imagine. However, we look at what we see and feel in the natural with our 5 senses and that becomes bigger than who God is and what He says. This brings fear, worry and anxiety.
The way we combat this is to meditate on a scripture such as the one above. Picture God’s Goodness and Lovingkindness with you and in you. Meditate on this until what God says becomes bigger than the problem. God tells us in Proverbs 4 to listen carefully to what He says and let His words penetrate deep in our hearts for they bring life to us and healing to our body. That’s when peace comes.
Don’t let stress and worry overcome you. Take God’s Word and magnify Him and His Word above the challenge you are facing. He loves you with an unconditional love that never stops and never condemns.
“Leap into the sea of His love.”
