Every good gift and every perfect gift is from above, and comes down from the Father of lights, with whom there is no variation or shadow of turning.
— James 1:17 (NKJ)
Many people believe God is behind everything, even all the bad things that happen. At one time, I thought that. I excused God (Lol) . . . by saying His reasons and ways were higher than mine. I said God was good, yet without admitting it to myself, I wondered if He might allow something difficult in my life so I could be a witness for Him or to teach me something. Deep down, I really wasn’t sure I could trust Him. But if you asked me, I would say, “Of course, I trust God”! God is God! Sovereign! In Control! You don’t tell Him what to do!
Thinking that God might do something that would hurt or cause difficulties, even if the word “allowed” is used, brings fear. How can you trust someone you fear? You can’t, even if you say you trust Him, your heart believes differently. Your words and your heart belief are not in harmony, therefore, what you say has no affect on what you truly believe.
Since opening myself up and deciding that I want to know the truth about God, His Word and myself, I have looked at some of my former beliefs. Finding out who God says He is through His names and also looking at the life of Jesus. I read and see that He is Good. He is our deliverer, provider, peace, protector, healer, faithful and on and on. Jesus never brought disaster or death on anyone. He never condemned anybody and He never put hardships on anybody to teach them something. He said if you’ve seen me, you’ve seen the Father.
Some verses in the Old Testament seem to contradict this view, but I’ve learned that the Hebrew language was not always interpreted correctly. So if I want to know what it really says, I should not look up something in the English dictionary, but go back to the original Hebrew language. I also ask the Holy Spirit to give me understanding of what seems like contradictions.
Search this out for yourself and see what you find. Let the Holy Spirit direct you. He never minds sincere, honest questions. He loves you and me enough to have given His Son, Himself, to become sin so we could become His Righteousness. He can not lie and can not change. He invites honest and sincere searching and questions.
Don’t just believe something because it’s what you’ve always been told. Be like the Bereans and search it out.
“You can’t resist the devil if you think God is to blame.”
