But the very hairs on your heads are all counted. Away with fear: you are more precious than a multitude of sparrows.
— Luke 12:7 (WNT)
This is a phrase that is repeated throughout the old and the new testaments. These words are for you. Do NOT be afraid and yet we are so often afraid.
Fear is an emotion and it is a response to our thoughts. If our thoughts go straight to the negatives of the “what if”, then our emotions will fall right into line with those negative thoughts bringing fear, worry and anxiety.
The Lord is telling us….”Do not be afraid”. He is with us. He will help us and has already given us what we need, yet sometimes we don’t believe Him.
We are of great worth to our Father. Did you know that in the beginning there was a covenant established with Adam and Eve? If is often called the Edenic Covenant. The penalty for breaking a covenant is death. Adam and Eve rebelled and broke the covenant.
In God’s next step, we see His love, value and our worth. He established the Adamic covenant and through that act, His grace and love are evidenced. He announces that a Redeemer will come. God LOVES humanity. We are of worth, so much so that He decided to establish the covenant with Himself and through Himself, as us and for us.
The more we come to see and understand our value and worth, the more we can grasp His words to us….”Do not be afraid.”
“Do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows”
