… and they shall know that my name is Jehovah.
— Jeremiah 16:21 (ASV)
There are three ways God has revealed Himself to us, by His actual name, in the life of Jesus and in the Scripture. When we look at all three of these ways, we can see God’s character and His true nature. He wants us to know Him, to know who He is, what He is like and what we can expect of Him.
Religion has mystified who God is making Him unknowable, unapproachable and unpredictable. Not really knowing His name and overlooking what He is like in the life of Jesus and His Word causes us to judge Him wrongly.
When you know a person’s character, then you KNOW what he will do. The foundation of a relationship with God is to know Him. Then you trust without hesitation because you know His nature and His character.
Jehovah means Eternal One, Ever Loving One. This is saying that He is eternally existent and faithful to His promises. He is who He says He is and He does not change. We see this declared in Exodus 3:14, “I AM THAT I AM”. God cannot deny Himself (2 Timothy 2:13). He forever and always will be “I AM THAT I AM”.
Take a look at who God is revealing Himself to be through the revelation of His character. Then align your belief with who God says He is.
For the November and December devotionals, we will be taking a look at each of the eight Covenant names of God. Open your heart to assess and see what you really believe about God.
