God’s Testimony Of Himself

June 8, 2025

A peach is a peach, only a peach.

If we are faithless, He remains faithful; He cannot deny Himself.

— 2 Timothy 2:13 (NKJ)

For years, I thought this meant that God would always choose to be faithful because He is a good God. So what does “He cannot deny Himself” mean?

Well, a peach tree cannot be anything but a peach tree because it can only produce peaches. No matter how hard I pray or try to believe that a peach tree will give me a pear, it never will because it cannot. It cannot choose to be something else. And it cannot deny that it is a peach tree. That is what it is.

So it is with God. He does not “choose” to be faithful. He is Faithfulness Himself and therefore, He can not decide to be unfaithful. He is Faithful like a rock and can never change. As a human being, I am not always faithful, but I can choose to be faithful. Later, maybe my feelings or circumstances change and I cannot be faithful to what I promised. So I become unfaithful, but not God. He says, “I change not”. He cannot deny Himself.

Therefore, if God says He is good, then He can never bring or do evil because good is not evil. God does not decide to ”be or do” good. He is good. Do you see the difference? God can be no other way than who He says He is. If He changed, He would be a liar and the world would fall apart.

The verse above is saying that no matter what you do, if you are unfaithful or faithless, God will never be unfaithful to you because He cannot. HE CANNOT DENY HIMSELF.

He cannot be what He is not – unfaithful. He can only be Faithful.

Seeing God as immovable in who He says He is and realizing that He does not “choose” to be a certain way, but can be only who He is, true to Himself, has changed my prospective. Seeing that He can never deny His character, validates all the adjectives and nouns that describe God.

So there is no need and no profit in begging God to be good. He is Good. (Period). And He can be nothing else. He must be in harmony with who He says He is.

This is the reason we can have confidence in His character and how Jesus portrayed Him. HE IS! When He says I AM, He is saying I am who I say I am and I will never change. What assurance this understanding brings.

He will never ever bring disaster or evil into your life. I am not saying you will not face these things, but they can not be from God because that is not who He is.  Even what seems like contradictions in the Old Testament are not. Mostly, it was man’s decisions.

When God put Moses in the cleft of the rock and allowed Moses to see His back, He said, “I will let my GOODNESS pass before you.  That is God – Goodness!

The Key to faith (trust) is to believe God’s testimony of Himself.

“You can’t resist the devil if you think God is to blame.”
