Hear – Take To Heart

March 9, 2025

A million miles away.

And He said to them, “He who has ears to hear, let him hear!”

— Mark 4:9; Matthew 13:9; Luke 8:8 (NKJ)

What does “He who has ears to hear, let him hear” really mean? It must be important because it is recorded in three of the gospels. Let’s look at this a little closer.

After saying this, Jesus explains the different types of soil seeds fall on. When seeds fall on good soil, a healthy crop comes forth. This also applies to us. When we hear Jesus’ words and we have a desire to follow them, we are good soil and we bear good fruit.

“Hear” means to listen, pay attention. It means to take to heart the words we are listening to or reading. It’s more than just hearing words.

Have you ever been in a situation where words are spoken out loud, but you’re not really listening? Instead, your mind is a million miles away. In the past, I found myself reading the Bible to fulfill my daily plan or maybe to be sure God was pleased with me but I wasn’t reading with the intention of hearing from God.

Life is challenging. We find ourselves in situations we didn’t expect and we want to blame somebody. Many times that somebody is God. Yet Jesus tells us, if we are listening, that we are reaping seeds we planted. It’s not God doing it. Therefore, we need to consider what we have planted.

This is not to bring condemnation on ourselves but to face why we are where we are. We have not listened. Jesus’ teaching was never meant to make life hard. He doesn’t tell us to read the Word to get brownie points or feel good about ourselves. He wants us to know how to live victoriously. He wants us to know why we are where we are and what to do about it. He wants to help you be aware of what you’re doing and saying. He wants you to have a good life.

Many, many times He says don’t fear, don’t worry, don’t by anxious. You think, why not, life is challenging. So why not? Because God says He is your refuge, your safe place. He will make a way. Are you listening?  Because you reap what you sow. You are planting seeds that reproduce. Worry and anxiousness bring trouble your way. Trust and rest bring peace and joy. Listen and learn.

God is not withholding from you. He is always trying to communicate with you. You have to lay aside your preconceived ideas, thoughts and judgments and listen. When you purpose to listen and watch, you will find answers and you will begin to see the fruit of victory in your life because of the seeds you are planting.

What you purpose to hear, you will hear.

“Life doesn’t just happen. You reap what you sow.”
