I, the LORD, search the heart, I test the mind, Even to give every man according to his ways, According to the fruit of his doings.
— Jeremiah 17:10 (NKJ)
Did you know that “you reap what you sow” is foundational to everything that God has set in place? It is an unchanging law God established in Genesis chapter one. It says numerous times, “yields after its kind”. The type of seed sown is the type of harvest or fruit you will reap. You can not sow one seed and expect another.
In the above verse, it would seem that God decides what is given to each person, but if you look at this verse with the law of the seed in mind, take note of the last statement. It says, “according to the fruit of his doings”. We are where we are because of the seeds we have sown. We receive the harvest of that, accordingly.
Life doesn’t just happen. It is not a random series of events. Yet, you may be wondering how you got where you are today. Take some time to look over your life and ask the Holy Spirit to show you what kind of seeds you have been sowing. It is easy to quickly blame God for your circumstances or even to blame the devil for your circumstances. But how many of us realize that we are where we are because of the seeds “we” have sown over the years?
This principle of the seed is throughout the Bible and applies to most everything. We are often unaware of this principle and may limit it to certain things or situations, but really it is a law that is working in ways we don’t even realize. This month we are going to take a look at several things regarding this unchanging law of God.
