God blessed them. Who is the blessor? God. He is the only one who can truly bless because everything comes from Him (John 1:3). Adam and Eve had His intentioned blessing from the beginning. Blessings were poured onto mankind because of their union with God.
Blessed was Adam and Eve’s state of being. This is the blueprint for life. Jesus is the fulfillment of the original blueprint for mankind. Being in union with Father and Holy Spirit He showed us what the continual prosperity of heart life is – blessed.
Emmanuel, God with us, means you are blessed! From creation God wanted mankind to be blessed, to be in union with Him so we can enjoy all that God is, His very self (2 Peter 1:3).
In the Garden, mankind bought the lie that he was sufficient in and of himself – independent. Humanity was blinded, deceived and no longer able to see the goodness of the great Creator. Union with God was gone. They lost the state of blessedness.
Blessedness was replaced with what is now the current state of being for most of humanity which is worry, anxiety, fear, concern, uncertainty, loss of peace. This has became mankind’s perpetual state of existence brought on by independence from God.
This can be a lifestyle of independence or just one area, or a moment, or a season of doing, being and thinking I am enough in and of myself. This “independence” can come into our lives very subtly, showing up in different forms and ways. We need to be on alert for the “I can”, willpower attitude that creeps in.
Blessedness is the state of bliss having everything to do with God, who He is, and that He is with me. “Being blessed” has nothing to do with circumstances. While in the middle of life, this is difficult to grasp.
My “being blessed“ is not based on my five senses. We are trained to live thinking that blessed is tangible in the sense of what I see, feel and what is happening to me. But this is not the case. Blessed is knowing and believing God is with me. This is how I get through whatever comes my way.
This view requires a retraining of the mind and the senses to the true meaning of what it means to “be blessed”. I have to do this daily, moment by moment, intentionally. Then I come into this amazing place of peace and indescribable joy – the bliss of blessed. Because “Blessed” is a state of being, this peace and joy are from the inside, not the outside.
Being blessed is the dynamic union with God. He calls me His own (John 1:12-13). This brings that continuous state of bliss, joy, abundance, provision, peace, etc… God is with me, feeling and experiencing all that I go through.
With this understanding of what it is to be blessed, I see all that He is and all He is provides all that I need. “BLESSED ~ a perpetual state of bliss”
