“And I will place great hostility between you and the woman, and between her seed and yours. He will crush your head as you crush his heel.
— Genesis 3:15 (TPT)
In the Garden of Eden who rejected and left who?
We have this picture that God left us, that our sin drove him away. When you read what happened to Adam and Eve after they partook of the tree of the knowledge of good and evil, it clearly states they went and hid. Not only did they hide from God, but hid from each other by covering themselves with fig leaves. They were covered in shame and desperate to cover it up. God did not reject them even after they took the lie of satan.
Read the amazing next part of the story…..
Genesis 3:8 And they heard the sound of the LORD God walking in the garden in the cool of the day,….v9 Then the LORD God called to Adam and said to him, “Where are you?”
Adam’s response was that he was afraid and he hid himself.
Back to the question, who rejected who? The Love of God is here in the midst of their shame and in the midst of the wrong choice they made. God was seeking them out. He knew where they were and yet he asks. He wants them to talk to him, to tell him what happened, what they did. Yet they are so consumed with fear and shame, they couldn’t see His love anymore.
They exchanged the truth of God, who He is and who they were, for a lie. They could no longer see the love and goodness of the Lord, their creator. They were alienated from God in their own minds (Eph 4:18). Their view of God had changed. In spite of this, He seeks them out. He calls to them and gives them the opportunity to share and talk, to invite him into their situation so that love could fix it.
As you read this event you see that God never berates them. He never lets them know the horrors that will come about to all generations because of what they had done. He does not compound the guilt and shame. He does not look for them to grovel in their shame.
Instead, He is pro-humanity! He stands by them and says, “I will fix this. I will destroy the one who has tried to destroy you and put you into bondage. I will come.”
He says to them, “know that I love you; know I will fix what you have done. I will come where you are. I will be as you. I’m coming in. I am coming into your humanity to wrap my arms around you because I love you.”
That is our God. That is your God and my God. He loves you! He fixes every mess you have ever made and wraps you in his arms. He came where you are and lived as you, to show you that He loves you. He seeks you, He calls you by name. He wants you to know that He is not shaking his finger at you but rather He wraps His arms around you. You are His masterpiece, the love of all His creation.
