And Yahweh-God commanded him: “You may freely eat of every fruit of the garden. But you must not eat of the Tree that gives the knowledge of good and evil, for when you eat from it you will most certainly die.”
— Genesis 2:16-17
Why did God put that tree in the Garden? By giving them a choice God would find out if they really trusted Him. He loved them; He wanted them to love Him and choose Him of their own free will. Up front, He said the fruit from this tree is bad for you. However, He was not going to force Adam and Eve not to eat it. He wanted them to trust Him. God is good – always. He has good for you.
Did Eve believe God? Trust God? Did she believe He had good for her? Not really, No! Today God is often portrayed as a harsh God just waiting to condemn you. That’s not who the Bible says God is. Jesus said if you have seen Me, you have seen the Father. John 14:9-11 Jesus is compassionate and kind. He blessed and loved people. That’s what the Father does. Everyday we have the choice to believe Him or believe the lie. If we choose “the lie” we bring disaster on ourselves. God didn’t do it. We did!
