Stepping into the light

God Defines Who You Are

October 2, 2022
Stepping into the light

Imagine yourself as God sees you.

“And Jabez called on the God of Israel saying, ‘Oh, that You would bless me indeed, and enlarge my territory, that Your hand would be with me, and that You would keep me from evil, that I may not cause pain!’ So God granted him what he requested.”

— 1 Chronicles 4:10

Jabez realized by revelation that his mother had dumped her pain on him making him feel unloved and unworthy by naming him Jabez meaning bringer of pain and sorrow. So he prayed for God to bless him, expand his territory, put His hand on him and keep him from being what had been drilled in him by his mother. His hope was to respond to the revelation he had seen, to throw himself upon the covenant loving God and declare the truth about himself. He had expectancy about the future now because he realized he was not what his mother had said. He was defined by who God said he was. You, too, are not defined by what others may have said about you, but only what Abba says about you. Think about this and begin to imagine yourself as God sees you. Live in who you really are – precious, loved and valued, not a mistake or unwanted. You are His treasure!
