“The LORD who rescued me from the claws of the lion and the bear will rescue me from this Philistine!”
— 1 Samuel 17:37a
David is talking about Goliath. He used the time while watching his father’s sheep to develop a relationship with God. He meditated (chewed the cud) on the greatness of God everyday and learned to trust God when facing challenges. He saw God give him courage and strength to kill the lion and bear. Therefore, he was prepared mentally to face Goliath because he saw God’s greatness and power, not Goliath’s. He focused on God, not Goliath! In fact, he ran toward Goliath, not hesitating. David reaped the blessing of what he meditated on. It’s important to meditate on who Abba Father is (good, kind, loving, protecting) and the new identity Jesus has given you and me – you are righteous (a gift, not earned).
