And when Pharaoh saw that the rain, the hail, and the thunder had ceased, he sinned yet more; and he hardened his heart, he and his servants.
— Exodus 9:34 (NKJ)
What might have happened if Pharaoh had accepted God as God like King Nebuchadnezzar did in the book of Daniel? He certainly would have had a different ending! God is never out to get you and punish you. No, He is seeking you and desires that you turn your heart toward Him, the true God of love and goodness.
Pharaoh made the choice to harden his own heart. He did not choose for it to melt like butter, but rather to let it harden like clay. He rebelled and stubbornly refused to see the true and only God. He had a minimum of ten chances to change and declare God is God and no other but each time he resisted and his heart became harder with every plague. God gave him many chances to turn to Him and Pharaoh resisted.
Perhaps there are times when you have allowed your heart to become hard, rather than letting it soften. I know I have. I am asking the Holy Spirit to reveal to me those times so that I can go back and change my belief about something that happened which gave me a hard heart. I want to let go and change my view and opinion to align with God’s view.
Take time to listen to your heart through the Holy Spirit….is there an area where you are hard toward God? You can change that and your heart will become soft again.
