Thoughts Create Feelings

October 11, 2026

The more I thought about it the madder I got!

Anxiety in the heart of man causes depression, . . .

— Proverbs 12:25 (NKJ)

Feelings, feelings, feelings – they come from thoughts, thoughts, thoughts.

Depression, fear, worry and anxiety are prevalent in the world today.  Maybe you feel embarrassed or guilty because you are a believer and yet you deal with these feelings.

There is no condemnation for those in Christ Jesus, but He wants better for you. Most of the time, the root cause of these feelings is what you allow to consume your thoughts. Obsessing over a problem, disappointment or sickness only makes it bigger.

The Bible has answers; we can choose to live by those answers or live by our feelings.

Begging God to take the feeling away is not the answer. You have to intentionally change your thoughts.

When you become willing to deal with your thoughts and agree that you no longer want to live as that anxious or depressed person, you can refuse that feeling. It has no power to control you unless you give it power.

You can intentionally let go of it or wallow in it. Feelings do not last unless you think about them over and over.  I promise you, they will change when you change your thoughts. You’ve heard or perhaps said yourself, “The more I thought about it the madder I got”. Why? Because perpetual thoughts create feelings.

It does take effort on your part when you decide to walk away from letting your feelings rule you and let the spirit rule you, but you can do it. Take the first step and Jesus is right beside you giving you strength; it gets easier as you do it. When those old feelings pop up, you don’t have to give in to them. Get rid of them intentionally. Imagine yourself as the new creation you are.

“A simple change in thought can turn the tide of any situation”.
