…we were included in his death and are therefore equally included in his resurrection.
— 2 Timothy 2:11 (Mirror Bible)
A Kinsman Redeemer is someone who steps in, rescues and restores. The Kinsman Redeemer must be of the same kind and of some family relation.
Jesus shed His glory, stepped into our story, into our very existence, positioning Himself to become our Kinsman Redeemer – a close relative. John 1:14
The creator of life committed Himself into the hands of those He created. He subjected Himself willingly because He is Love.
The result of this beautiful story is this, “I am in Christ and Christ is in me”.
Sometimes these are just words and the meaning is lost on us.
So what is it to be “in Christ”? It means that He became one of us. He stepped into our story. We are “in Christ” because He came wrapped in flesh. He lived life here in our shoes as a human.
We often hear that Jesus did it for me but when you look at the Word, we see that He did it as me. In Galatians, it says that I am crucified with Christ. He died as me. I died and was buried with Him.
David is a great example of what this means. When David defeated Goliath who’s victory was that? David was the only one who fought and killed the giant! No other person in all of Israel fought and yet, at the end of the battle when David killed Goliath, 1 Samuel 17:52 says, “the men of Israel and Judah arose and shouted”!
Why would they do that? They didn’t lift a hand to fight. In fact, they trembled in fear for nearly 6 weeks! Why were they excited? Because every person was represented in David as he went before Goliath. They were “in” David as he fought. It was a victory for the “all”. His victory was their victory!
This is what Jesus did. He is my representative and I was “in Jesus” when He died. He died as me. This is the “I am in Christ” because He lived and died as me. Galatians 2:20
The “Christ in me” means I am a new creation because I am raised as Him and seated with Him. Ephesians 2:4-6. I now live His victory. He died as me; I am raised as Him. 2 Timothy 2:11
The astounding result of His coming and joining us is that His story is now my story! We have been rescued and restored. He lived as me that I might live as Him.
“I am in Christ” (He became human; He stepped into my story) and “Christ is in me” (I am now a new creation; His story is now my story.)
