“For the thing I greatly feared has come upon me, And what I dreaded has happened to me.”
— Job 3:25
Even though Job was very wealthy in every area, he was afraid something bad was going to happen to him. By his thoughts, imagination and words, he brought disaster upon himself. In Job 6:24 Job says teach me and I will hold my tongue, but then in Job 7:11 he says I will not restrain my mouth. Job received the fruit of his mouth-what he said, thought and imagined. And in Job 40, he says I will cover my mouth with my hand because I have said too much. He recognized much later after God confronted him that he had said way too many wrong things about God and the situation. Many of the words from Job that are quoted today are Job’s own wrong thoughts about God, not who God really is. Job said God gives and takes away, but that was Job’s opinion, not what God does. It was Job’s words and imagination that gave an entrance to satan. May our words line up with who God really is and what He says, not what we think.
