For the LORD’s portion is His people; Jacob is the place of His inheritance. “He found him in a desert land and in the wasteland, a howling wilderness; He encircled him, He instructed him, He kept him as the apple of His eye. As an eagle stirs up its nest, hovers over its young, spreading out its wings, taking them up, carrying them on its wings…”
— Deuteronomy 32:10 (NKJ)
Here we see God wanting, desiring and taking action to take care of His people, the Israelites, in the wilderness. He has them centered as the object of His attention and His love. He carries them as an eagle carries its young.
This is you and me. We are the apple of His eye. We are the center of His attention.
I have two dogs and they truly show me how they delight in being the object of my attention. They bask in it. They wag their tails, look up into my face and revel in being petted, talked to and adored. They delight in being the center of attention. They can’t get enough. They would stay there and let me joy over them indefinitely. As long as they are with “their people”, they are content. They look up expectantly and “say” to me, “I am here as the center of your attention and I delight in every minute of it!”.
What a beautiful example this is to us in relation to God. He longs to hover over us, care for us, protect us and to love on us, but we have to come to a place of receiving. Look up at your Heavenly Father and say, “I am here to delight in being the center of your attention.”
“Delight in being the object of God’s love.”
