Jesus is the revelation of God’s name. “I will reveal who you really are to my brothers and sisters…” (Hebrews 2:12). When you look at the Gospels, you see the names of God revealed in all that Jesus did while here on earth.
In the Old Testament, the Israelites displayed a waving banner over their tribes. The banner was a military reference. The Israelites were put into 4 groups consisting of three tribes in each group. On the east was Judah with the banner of a lion, to the north was Dan with the banner of an eagle, to the west was Ephraim with the banner of an ox and to the south Reuben with the banner of a man. These banners were a display of God’s banner of victory over them.
Jesus is revealed in the Gospels as each of these four faces/banners. In Matthew he is written about as King of kings (the banner of a lion). In Mark he is written about as the Servant (the banner of an ox – sacrifice). In Luke he is written about as the Son of Man (the banner of the face of man). In John he is written about as the Son of God (the banner of an eagle).
Jesus is our banner. He is the love of God revealed. He came to show us Himself, God. Many know the names of God, but God is saying, “trust who I say I am”! It is easy to trust in other things such as military might, strength, wisdom, self reliance. We are helped when we remember and bring to mind, focus on, bring to light, magnify, exalt and are single minded about who God says He is.
And God says to Moses, “I AM THAT WHICH I AM…. “ Exodus 3:14 (LSV)
God is who He says He is. There is no wondering who God is or what He wants to do. His name reveals all of who He is and we see this fully displayed in Jesus.
His name is Provider, Healer, Victory, Sanctifier, Peace, Shepherd, Righteousness, Present. He is “I AM” meaning I AM “that” I AM. Look to Him for “that” which He has provided for us.
