And the LORD spoke to Moses, saying: “Speak to Aaron and his sons, saying, ‘This is the way you shall bless the children of Israel. Say to them: “The LORD bless you and keep you; The LORD make His face shine upon you, and be gracious to you; The LORD lift up His countenance upon you, and give you peace.”’
— Numbers 6:24-26 (NKJ)
The Lord declared the Israelites to be blessed. He said speak this over them and this is what the Lord is saying to us. We are blessed! We are favored! We have His presence with us.
Lets look at each phrase in the above spoken blessing.
The Lord bless you ~ He favors you and gives you success. He makes it so that you live and abide in His goodness.
And keep you ~ The Lord hedges you about, protects, and guards you. He surrounds you and shields you.
The Lord make His face shine upon you ~ His face, means His presence. His presence shines on you. He is radiating His very life upon you.
And be gracious to you ~ He bestows favor on you in stooping or bending down. In kindness, the superior bends down to the level of the inferior. This is what God has done! This is Emmanuel, God with us. He has stooped down to us, wrapped himself up in our flesh, becoming as us.
Lift up his countenance on you ~ His presence is on you and He looks at you with His face beaming! He grins from ear to ear delighting in you with unrestrained joy. The Lord looks at you and smiles.
And give you ~ He sets upon you, places on you . . .
peace ~ This is completeness, all encompassing. It is wholeness from the inside out. It is safety, wellness, health, prosperity, soundness. It is being whole just as He is whole.
So with these meanings in mind we could say it like this.
The Lord favors me and I abide in His goodness, The Lord hedges me about, surrounding and shielding me. The Lord’s very presence is with me, radiating His life in me. He bends down toward me in kindness, living where I have lived. The Lord smiles at me, delighting in me with exuberant joy. The Lord places His peace on me, wholeness from the inside out.
Are we blessed or what???? We are blessed! The Lord has declared we are blessed, favored and abide in His presence. This blessedness is the blessed life!
