… He has brought me to his banqueting place, And his banner over me is love [waving overhead to protect and comfort me].
— Song of Songs 2:4 (Amp)
Earlier I wrote of the miracle of the house the Lord provided for us and how I learned to shift my thinking to His provision in spite of what it seemed. Well, there is more to tell. Before moving in, there were a few changes we wanted to make to update it. As the projects got underway, we discovered that the yard was not draining the water very well. This meant that the new floors could not be put down until the yard was drained and water pulled from the foundation of the house. It is fixable and a contractor is coming to do the work. However, we have run into delays and more delays. Disappointing to say the least.
How do I handle these thoughts of disappointment, discouragement and angst? I have been making a conscious effort to focus on the names of the Lord declaring who he is while in the midst of living life. I am meditating on the name, Jehovah Nissi – the Lord is my banner, my victory.
Waving over my head, protecting me and comforting me is “His banner over me is love”. In his love, there is no worry, anxiousness or fear. I began to focus on just how much he loves me. Jesus is my friend and he lived this life so that I can abide in peace, joy and love. The banner of his love is my victory, not my circumstances. As I realize that his love surrounds me each moment and as I wake up each morning with a grateful heart, seeing his love, I am finding the joy and comfort that Jesus talks about. His love surrounds me. I am safe; I am provided for; I am at peace and good is being worked out for me even though the circumstances would make one question that. I have found victory in Jehovah Nissi. His banner over me is love and perfect love casts out fear.
As I focus on his banner of love surrounding me, I am ok with the house move in being delayed to a “not sure when we will move in” date. Believing he loves me, I am able to be confident that he is taking care of me.
The banner over us declaring who we are, and to whom we belong is the love of God. This is fully expressed in Jesus our Savior and Redeemer. For God SO loved us that He gave His only begotten Son… You lift high that banner! You exalt and magnify how much he loves you. His love for you is your banner, your safe place.
“Some trust in chariots, some trust in horses; but we will remember the name of the Lord our God.”
