He Chose You

Blessed be the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, who has blessed us with every spiritual blessing in the heavenly places in Christ,

Every spiritual blessing in the heavenly realm has already been lavished upon us as a love gift from our wonderful Heavenly Father (TPT) . . . And Paul goes on to explain what some of those spiritual blessings are:

He CHOSE you and me before laying the foundation of the universe. Oh wow! The Creator chose us and it goes on to say why he chose us. It was because of His great LOVE for us. Pause a minute and think about that. You are greatly loved, not because of anything you do to earn that love, but because he wants you. 

I remember playing games at recess in grade school. Sometimes there would be teams and the captain of each team had the opportunity to choose who would be on his team. Everyone of us wanted to be chosen. It was embarrassing to be the last one left. I remember the feeling of relief when my name was called. Well, Jesus has chosen you. All you have to do is accept his invitation. HE WANTS YOU.

Then Paul says we were PREDESTINED FOR ADOPTION. Predestined does not mean only certain people. It means he set up a plan, a path for us, but the choice is each person’s. You have been chosen. Also adoption here does not mean what we think of in the Western world. Remember, in the beginning, God created you in His image and likeness. You were part of His family. After sin came in, we lost our position. So now God is saying, I am reinstating you. It’s similar to the Jewish Barmitsva when a young man turns 13 and is recognized as coming of age to take his place in the family.

God, through what Jesus has done by dying, going down into Hades and rising from the dead, is saying we are now in His family again and He loves us the same as He loves Jesus. Really? Yes, that is what Paul is telling us in verse 6.

Next week I am going to continue in Ephesians 1, but until then, I want you to ponder what I’ve said and may it become a reality in your heart. You are chosen and placed in God’s family. You are no longer alone. He wants you to receive His love, sit with Him as you would a friend and share your heart. He is never too busy and will not condemn you.
