“Today I have given you the choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Now I call on heaven and earth to witness the choice you make. Oh, that you would choose life, so that you and your descendants might live!”
— Deuteronomy 30:19 (NLT)
God always gives us a choice between life and death, between blessings and curses. Immediately, in my mind, I think, yes and I choose life and blessings. However, mentally consenting to this does not make it automatically happen in my life. What brings life and blessings into my life is what happens throughout my day.
When a challenge comes up and I feel discouraged and defeated, do I give in to that feeling and allow a panic attack? This is my opportunity to remind myself that God is very aware of what I am facing and He is not having a panic attack.
I have the choice to focus on God’s faithfulness which can not change because He lives outside of time. Remembering that He is not pointing a finger at me making me feel like an idiot, but He is loving me and saying, “I got this”, brings hope into the situation.
It is up to me to take responsibility for my feelings. When I admit them, then God can help me step into who I really am – a new creation who trusts Him and knows He has good for me.
These are simple things that I am learning to apply everyday, but it’s not always easy. Why? Because maybe I like feeling sorry for myself. Maybe it feels good to my flesh to have people sympathize with me as I repeat several times a day what I am going through.
It’s good to evaluate why we do certain things and if we see a pattern that is not helping us live victoriously, then let it go. Follow what you are learning about how to live as an overcomer even in the midst of big challenges. Put into practice everyday how you do it – by remembering God’s Love for you and HIs Goodness and His Faithfulness. Say it out loud because that makes it more real.
It works! Today choose life and blessings, not only mentally, but get it in your heart and experience His life and blessings. They are real and they are for you.
” It is not living for Him but from Him”
