And I will place great hostility between you and the woman, and between her seed and yours. He will crush your head as you crush his heel.
— Genesis 3:15 (TPT)
Here God is talking to satan about Jesus. In Genesis 1:28 God told Adam to subdue the earth which means to take control of and have dominion over. When Adam chose to believe the devil’s wrong report about God, he brought sin into the world.
This was the beginning of destruction through disease, sickness, hatred, fear, worry, anxiety, poverty, addictions, etc. In other words, lack came into the world. Before this happened, there was no lack. God supplied Adam and Eve with everything they would ever need or want. But He also gave them freedom of choice. He did not sovereignly make them choose Him.
The devil came in to destroy everything God had done through man by bringing chaos on the earth. God limited Himself by giving control of the earth to Adam. Because He was/is righteous and just, He established a plan before the foundation of the world.
To defeat the enemy, God knew He had to do it legally – because He is righteous. If He changed His mind, He would be a liar and the world would fall apart!
How would God bring redemption to mankind? It had to be through a human being, a perfect man, because a man followed satan. So, legally, a perfect human being would have to destroy the works of the evil one.
Sinful man could not do it because his sin made it illegal. The only way this could work is if God became a genuine man using none of his divine attributes. Otherwise, the devil would cry, “Illegal!”
Isn’t this amazing? I began to understand from the above verse that God prophesied it would be from the seed of the woman – a human – that the devil would be crushed and destroyed. And who was the seed?
The seed was Jesus, God’s Son, who had to stoop down and become a true human without divine qualities. Through him, God would come to the earth and destroy the works of satan. (1 John 3:8)
Moses prophesied this when he said God would raise up a prophet like me from among the Israelites to whom you must listen. (Deuteronomy 18:15) David said “I will declare your name to my brethren”. (Psalm 22:22) Isaiah 9:6 says a child is born who will carry the government and His name is wonderful, Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father, Prince of Peace.
God is showing us Jesus’ total humanity. What an amazing God! This really is beyond comprehension.
Unless I line up my thinking with what the Word of God says about Jesus’ humanity, I am the one who is wrong. My part is to believe what He says and receive His complete plan for Redemption through the real man, Jesus.
Seeing Jesus as fully human, suddenly makes all the promises within my reach!
“He entered my darkness as Everlasting Light.”
