He who dwells in the secret place of the Most High shall abide under the shadow of the Almighty. I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress; My God, in Him I will trust.”
— Psalm 91:1-2 (NKJ)
“The person who sits still and in quietness in the Secret Place of God will stay permanently under the protection of the Almighty. He can say of the Lord, He is my place of hope and my fortress; because of Him I feel safe and have hope.”
Do you feel safe in the presence of the Lord? You may say, “Of course, I do”. However, what makes you feel safe is how you see God. Do you picture Him as angry or disappointed in you? Is He judging your every action? Do you think He is only tolerating you?
If you see God in any of these ways, then you really don’t feel safe with Him. One of the telltale signs of how you feel about God is if you have to make yourself spend time in His presence. You determine to read the Bible and pray for 15 minutes, half hour or maybe one hour, but it’s not enjoyable.
God does not condemn you for that. He really doesn’t, but what He says to you is, “you really don’t know Me”.
See how Jesus treats people and handles situations in the gospels. He got upset with the religious people because they put unnecessary burdens on people, but other times he was loving, blessing, providing, healing and taking time for people.
In his parable about the prodigal son, Jesus shows the father running to meet his son – not condemning or judging or making him feel guilty. That’s your Abba Father.
God wants the time you spend with Him to be fun – a joy. He wants you to be encouraged by His words, but he also wants to hear about you and what’s going on with you. As you see Him as He really is, you heart belief changes; you delight in being with Him.
You still have to be intentional about spending time with Him, but you no longer think of it as your duty. You want to be with Him because you know that He is your safe place.
Get to know Him as He really is. He desires to spend time with you.
