17 “If you should say in your heart, ‘These nations are greater than I; how can I dispossess them?’— 18 you shall not be afraid of them, but you shall remember well what the LORD your God did to Pharaoh and to all Egypt:…”
— Deuteronomy 7:17-18 (NKJ)
We are to remember and bring into the present the goodness of the Lord. We have to recall it in the now. To recall is not to rattle it off as a historical event, but to put yourself back in that place where you see and experience what God has done! We have to emotionally connect with God’s goodness. He is there, but we must remember.
If we only look at the immediate need of the moment, the heart will be impregnated with the negative – the belief that God does not provide, God does not come through. Without remembering and bringing to mind what God has done and who He is, we will question God’s true intentions and begin to blame Him. We justify this belief by saying that he is teaching us something or has a greater purpose. Not aware of what has happened to the heart, our heart becomes hardened.
We make the choice to have a soft heart or a hard heart by the evidence we gather.
Where is your heart? Remember and bring to mind, with emotional intent, the goodness of the Lord.
