Be still, and know that I am God . . .
— Psalm 46:10a (ASV)
In this world of busyness and filled with anger, fear, worry, anxiousness, strife and disappointment, God is saying to be still, slow down, take a deep breath, stop. He says before you dive deeper into one of these emotions, remember who I am! I am your good Father who loves you. I want to help you. Let Me.
People have weird ideas about God. They listen to the media, movies, friends, books and experiences. This influences their picture of God and they believe this evidence more than the Bible. The Bible is the only place we should look to find out God’s character and what He is like. Some interpretations make Him sound like He sometimes brings evil things, but that is not what He says about Himself through His names and the life of Jesus.
Many say God tempts, tests and tries us. Even though circumstances sometimes look like it’s true, what does God say? James 1:13 says God does not tempt us which means in the Greek “test”. He is saying, your tests and trials are not from Me. Tests and trials are NOT from GOD.
James goes on to say that tests and trials come from a person’s own desires and thoughts. They lure us into wrong choices. Be open and let God show you what went wrong. Don’t blame Him.
James 1:17 says that only good and perfect gifts are from GOD. It doesn’t say that He throws in a few bad things along the way. He does not, but you have to convince your heart of this. Otherwise, you are serving Him with a chip on your shoulder and that will not build trust – faith.
Know that God is Good. Meditate on the evidence He gives about Himself.
“Don’t change who God is to fit your beliefs. Change your beliefs to fit who God is.”
