. . . For I am the LORD your healer.
— Exodus 15:26 (ESV)
This verse says that God is our Healer, Jehovah Rapha. If God says He is our healer, then He would never put sickness on us because this would violate His name, Rapha.
I grew up hearing that sometimes God puts things on us to teach us something, but I don’t see that anywhere in the Bible. Of course, through the seeds we plant, we reap things that aren’t always good. And exposure to diseases can cause us to contract them. Anger, bitterness, worry and fear can also bring sickness upon our body. But blaming God for sickness is not in His Word. That would make Him cruel and there is no name for God that says He is cruel.
Who would want to serve a God that wants to teach you something by hurting you? The verse that says His ways are higher than our ways and His thoughts are higher than our thoughts is often used to explain away things we don’t understand, meaning, God may do bad things to us, but it’s really for our good. That is nonsense. Matthew says if we know how to give good gifts to our children, how much more does God give good gifts to His children? Sickness is not a good gift.
It is true that God can use whatever happens to us for good, but He never has to use bad things to bring people to Him. He never causes them.
If we don’t believe God is always for us and has good for us, we can’t trust Him. If you have a friend who often does the opposite of what they say, you know not to trust that person.
The life of Jesus shows us that He healed ALL the sick and demon possessed that came to Him. The only place He couldn’t do many miracles was his home town where they didn’t believe in him. But that was their choice.
The devil is the one who wants to defame God’s name and make us think He is angry, mad and wants to hurt us. Contradictions that may appear in the Word are because of translators misinterpretations. When you study it out, you see the inconsistency and error.
If you say God is good, but you have not settled the issue in your heart, then you will not be able to trust God in difficult situations. Be honest in your conversations with God and ask Him to help settle in your heart His truth about who He is.
He wants you well. He is Jehovah Rapha. He is Eternally your Healer.
