What is the price of two sparrows—one copper coin? But not a single sparrow can fall to the ground without your Father knowing it. And the very hairs on your head are all numbered. So don’t be afraid; you are more valuable to God than a whole flock of sparrows.
— Matthew 10:29-31 (NLT)
Jesus took the time to tell us that God values you and me. He is saying look at the little bird who has no name, and there are so many of them, but God cares about each one. Then he says God even knows how many hairs are on your head. Someone who knows even the smallest details about you, certainly values you. You are important to Him.
Understanding that someone knows you well and yet truly cares about you is significant and lets you know you can trust that person. There are few humans you can really trust in the world we live in today, but here Jesus is saying you can always trust Me and the Father.
Here are several ways we know we can trust God.
1. We read that heaven and earth will pass away, but the Word of the Lord will stand forever.
2. God’s character is shown in His names: Jehovah Jireh (Provider), Jehovah Rapha (Healer), Jehovah Nissi (Victory), Jehovah Shalom (Peace), Jehovah Rohi (Shepherd) and the list goes on and on.
3. The life of Jesus. He showed us the Father. He never refused to heal or deliver anybody. He was kind and caring. He valued people.
I encourage you to receive God’s love and acceptance. Don’t let feelings of unworthiness, shame and guilt keep you from accepting what He says about you. You are precious to Him. Begin your day by saying out loud. I am the woman/man Abba loves. I am who He says I am – valuable. Jesus died in my place and took all sin from me. I am a new person. My past does not define me, Jesus does. I send away wrong thoughts about myself because I am a new person. I send away fear and put on God’s view of me.
Make a decision and choose to live by His words and not your feelings.
“Do not be afraid; you are worth more than many sparrows.”
