Be Willing To Assess Your View

September 15, 2024

Have His promise in your heart.

For God’s Word is something to sing about! He is true to his promises, his word can be trusted, and everything he does is reliable and right.

— Psalm 33:4 (TPT)

The Father’s Word is trustworthy. However, sometimes our feelings and the voices around us try to get us to think otherwise. Most of us have started off believing God for something He promised in His word and then because it didn’t happen right away or the way we expected it, we changed our belief to match the circumstances. This is called “circumstantial theology”.

I’ve started out believing a promise of God strong and then as I didn’t see it happening, I changed my belief by saying things like, “Well, God has a greater purpose and he wants me to learn something from what I am experiencing, so all is well. I’ll just accept this as from Him.”

But God doesn’t say to accept and endure or give up anywhere in the Bible. He says to seek and keep seeking and we will find (Matthew 7:7). This does not mean to beg. God has already given us, through the death, burial and resurrection of Jesus, salvation, provision, healing, peace and deliverance,  Our part is to get what we know the word says from our head down into our heart where we are immovable about it.

In years past, I remember begging God for things believing all the while that I was pleasing Him by rebuking the enemy and pleading with Him. This was how I spent a lot of prayer time. But His grace has led me to reexamine some of my beliefs. Surprisingly, I’ve had to change my mind in several areas.

Yet, at times, circumstances can still cause us to waver. If we waver when we see or feel something different than what the word says, then we know it’s not in our heart. I know a lot of things intellectually, but still working on getting them in my heart so that I am immovable. This is a process, not a one time decision. God says that His promises are Yes and we are to say Amen to them (2 Corinthians 1:20). They can be trusted.

A friend I knew several years ago was taken to the hospital after having something like a seizure. His diagnosis was dismal. In fact, the doctor said he would not leave the hospital alive. He immediately said, “Oh yes I will because God has told me I am going to pastor a church.” The next day he left the hospital and a few months later was pastoring the church. He had God’s promise of healing in his heart and nothing could take it away – not even the diagnosis of death. Therefore, He didn’t see death; he saw life!

“Plop into the chair of promise and sigh an amen – its done!”
